A couple of weeks ago we featured on this blog a list of direct download link forums and torrent trackers where you could find and download premium documentary series free of charge. Here’s a site which we forgot to mention in that article; DocMasters.TV. DocMasters is a DDL forum which is similar to Docs4You, Son of Shun and MVGroup (see end of post for links & review of these sites) in terms of indexed content. It’s a relatively new site where verified and reliable one click hosting links to premium documentaries by well known publishers and channels such as BBC. Discovery, National Geographic, The History Channel, PBS, HBO, Frontline, Channel 4, Imax and many others can be found. But it’s not only direct download links you can find on DocMasters – most of the uploads come with a streaming video link which can be used to watch an item online. For anyone interested in joining, the site is currently open for registrations (alternatively, you can login via Facebook connect as well).

DocMasters TV

Launched around 4 months ago, DocMasters is probably the youngest documentary DDL forum out there. However, it’s progressed at a good pace and now indexes over 2000 documentary releases (not counting uploads in VIP and adult sections). It really hasn’t had much exposure from file sharing blogs or forums yet but still has managed to recruit over 650 active members. These statistics are bound to go up as days progress and the site gets more exposure.

As is the case with most niche DDL communities out there, content is king on DocMasters. The site specializes in all kinds of documentaries including premium content that’s usually aired on pay TV channels. Amongst the indexed uploads are well known TV series aired on channels such as BBC, Discovery, National Geographic, ITV, Channel 4, HBO, SKY, etc as well as some audio only documentaries broadcast on radio. A screenshot capturing some of the release categories on DocsMasters can be seen below:

DocsMasters Screenshot

Just like on almost every DDL forum out there, releases are organized into forum sections on DocsMasters - each upload gets its own separate thread and a detailed description of the featured documentary, its download links and online streaming links (if available) can be found on these threads. To see the links, users must be registered, logged in and must have made at least one reply (even a simple ‘Thanks’ will do) to the thread in question. Uploads are usually hosted on one click hosting sites i.e. RapidShare and Megaupload. Online streaming is made possible with hosts such as MegaVideo, YouTube, Google Video, etc.

Registrations for DocsMasters is currently open. If you are looking for a good source to download documentary and infotainment content, this is a decent site to have.

This is probably the first time in several years the popular private tracker iPlay is having a proper open signup. As we posted quite a few times before, iPlay had occasionally allowed new member join through their trial registrations program; users had to prove that they were good members by meeting a set of pre set requirements in order for their trial account to be converted to permanent status. The current open signup however does not seem to be part of the trial program – accounts created now seem to get the regular user privileges immediately. This is great news for those who were looking forward to get into iPlay. It’s a great General/0Day tracker which tracks almost everything ranging from movies, TV shows, music, video games to E-Books. The site gets scene and non scene releases pretty quickly, has fast download speeds and indexes exclusive content released by 5 of its internal encoder groups. iPlay just recently introduced the iSeed bonus points system which makes it easier than ever to maintain a good ratio on site.

iPlay Logo

Statistically speaking, iPlay is one of the larger private trackers around. It tracks nearly 15000 active torrents of all shapes and sizes and has 38000+ registered users who keep these torrents alive and well seeded. However, size isn’t the only factor why iPlay is a great tracker. Unlike most general trackers which pretty much index the same content as any other similar site, iPlay has a lot of internal, exclusive releases. These are uploaded by 5 of their own release groups, iNCOMiNG (HD content), iDVD (DVDR releases), iPSP (mobile optimized video), iHD (HD content) and iMOBILE (Mobile optimized content). There are thousands of such exclusive encodes indexed here - you can track these using the iPlay Releases Board - http://www.iplay.ro/board/board.php). Additionally, this site has a great visual design - the four different themes introduced with iPlay V4 look great and gives the site a polished look.

While download speeds are usually great for indexed torrents, not being able to seed back easily has always been a problem for iPlay members. Thankfully, iPlay just recently introduced the iSeed bonus points system which makes things a lot easier. Quoted below is a new post on homepage explaining how the new system works:

iPLAY wants to help you maintain a good ratio, despite your low internet connection. It's never been easier to maintain your ratio. iSeed is based on the fundamental p2p principle, sharing.
If you seed what you downloaded, you'll never have to worry about your ratio.
How it works:
1. If the torrent is smaller than 1 GB or equal you get 1:1 ratio after 24 hours ( 1 day ) of seed.
2. If the torrent is smaller than 2 GB or equal you get 1:1 ratio after 48 hours ( 2 days ) of seed.
3. If the torrent is smaller than 3 GB or equal you get 1:1 ratio after 72 hours ( 3 days ) of seed.
4. If the torrent is not bigger than 4 GB included you get 1:1 ratio after 96 hours ( 4 days ) of seed.
5. If the torrent is bigger than 4 GB you get 1:1 ratio after 120 hours ( 5 days ) of seed.
6. If you download only a part of the torrent you will get 1:1 ratio as by the minimum seed time required.
7. If you make preseed ( download a torrent from another tracker and seeding it on iplay ) you won't get any bonus.

The new system was introduced just yesterday so it might take a while for members to get used to it and reap the benefits. Nevertheless, it appears to make life a lot easier for those struggling to maintain a healthy global ratio on site.

iPlay Releases Screen

Coming back to open registrations, we do not know for how long signups will remain open. The site’s current max users limit is set to 50000 - if iPlay remains open till this cap is reached, that would mean there are around 12000 free slots remaining. However, chances are that registrations would close after a short period of time so get in while you can - its not everyday you have open signups on this great tracker.

There are already quite a few specialized movie torrent trackers around with the likes of PTN, PTP, Goem, Tehconnection, etc. Todays post is about yet another movie torrent tracker, a lesser known site amongst the English speaking community. RuHD is a private torrent sites of Russian origin and it specializes in high quality movies (and a limited number of HQ TV shows). Reason for our use of the term ‘high quality’ is because this tracker does not index regular DVDRip/R5 DVD or lesser quality video encodes. It primarily tracks untouched DVD5, DVD9, HD Remux and 720p/1080p HDRip release with excellent video quality. Just like the recently featured UnionGang tracker, RuHD is one of the first sites to upload leaked content for region 5 i.e. R5 DVD releases by Russian groups such as ELEKTRIKA.

HQTracker Logo

Although we are not quite sure about the origins of this tracker, RuHD seems to have been online for several years. Some of the older torrents uploaded date back to 2008 which is three years ago. The total number of active indexed releases on RuHD is around 330. It surely could not have survived for three years with just 300 odd torrents – either there were more and they suffered from a data loss or they are recovering from such an incident. If anyone knows the back story of this tracker, feel free to share it in comments below. However, the number of new daily uploads seems to be on the low site. For the month of February, there have only been 30 new torrents added.

As for the content, RuHD is primarily a movies only tracker. Available torrent categories include DVD5, DVD9, HD Remux, HDRip 1080p, HDRip 720p, HQ Video and Serials. A limited number of TV shows are listed under the ‘Serials’ category. Some of the shows and films indexed have only Russian audio (them being region 5 releases) – if yo uare looking for English content, check the Language in torrent description page before downloading. Note that lower quality encodes are not indexed on this tracker. Everything has at least DVD5 or Blu Ray video quality. A screenshot of the torrent index can be seen below:

RuHD Index

RuHD is a Russian tracker and by default ,the site interface is in Russian language. There is an option to change it to English (through the profile page – /my.php) however translation is not done for some parts of the site so we recommend you use Google Chrome’s built in translator for this purpose.

How to translate RuHD to English with Google Chrome

  1. Download the latest version of Google Chrome browser from here.
  2. Visit RuHD homepage through this link: http://ruhd.org/
  3. Once the page is done loading, Google Chrome will automatically display several translation options (the message will be displayed just beneath the address bar – you can’t miss it).
  4. Choose the auto detected settings (should be Russian to English) and hit translate. If you get the message  ‘Translation failed due to server error’ keep re-trying.
  5. Once translation of the first page is done, you can configure Google Chrome so that it automatically translates all RuHD pages without prompting you. Select the ‘Options’ button (in the translation help popup) and select ‘Always translate Russian to English’ from the drop down menu.

Registrations for RuHD are currently open. You can sign up for an account and browse the torrent index using links below. It’s not the largest movie tracker out there but it’s a decent enough site to have an account on.

Bulletstorm is finally released. This was a first person shooter I personally was looking forward to playing in 2011. The raly reviews for the game are looking promising and it’s already got an aggregated review score of 82% at Gamerankings.com. I’ve had the opportunity to play the game for a couple of hours and it was a very enjoyable experience. Built on the unreal engine 3, BulleStorm had nice graphics and it ran surprisingly well even on my system with aging hardware. However, from what I have heard the game is pretty short  - it might take only around 5 hours for a veteran gamer to complete. Either way this post is not a review of BulletStorm – it’s a troubleshooting article which aims to fix some of the most commonly reported problems with the game.

How to increase BulletStorm performance by choosing the correct display resolution

While BulletStorm is a pretty well optimized PC port, there seems to be a weird issue with the game slowing down to a crawl on certain resolutions. For example, most people report having major slowdowns, stuttering and FPS drops in resolutions such as 1650x1080 and 1440x900. The trick here is to use a screen resolution that’s MOD 8. That is, the numeric values for width and height should be divisible by 8, with a remainder of 0. Examples of optimal resolutions include:

  • 1920x1080
  • 1360x768
  • 1600x1024

The above might not work for everyone and you will have to experiment a little to find the optimal solution for your particular case. However, if you experience unbelievable crappy performance, try changing the resolution – this is known to sometimes give gains as much as 40FPS.

Fix Bulletstorm crashing during launch or due to PhysX issue

Your game might crash during startup or will close with a PhysX related error message. In case this happens, please install latest PhysX system software that came bundled with the game (or you can download it from here). In case this does solve the problem, try the steps below.

  1. Install the latest NVIDIA PhysX system software.
  2. Navigate to :\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common\ folder. Copy all files inside this directory.
  3. Navigate to \Binaries\Win32\PhysXLocal\ folder in your BulletStorm installation folder. Paste all copied files inside the PhysXLocal folder, overwriting any existing ones.
  4. Restart the game.

How to save progress in Bulletstorm with a Windows Live Offline account

This is one of the most frequently asked questions in our troubleshooting articles. We have explained in detail the steps to resolve this but the issue pops up every time a GFWL based title is released.  Bulletstorm is a Games For Windows Live (GFWL) based title and you need to have an GFWL account in order to save game progress. But don’t worry, in case you don’t have an online profile, you can still save the game using an offline account. Step by step instructions on how to do this is given below:

  1. Launch the game. Open the Windows Live menu (or it will open automatically, prompting you to log in or create a new account).
  2. If you are not logged into any GFWL profile continue to step 3. If you are already logged onto a profile (local or online), try launching the single player component and try to save progress. If saving and loading works fine, you obviously have no problem. If it does not work, you’ll need to sign out of the current profile before continuing to step 3 (Create profile button will only become visible when you aren’t logged in).
  3. Click on ‘Create new profile’ button.
  4. In the dialog box that pops up DO NOT hit continue. Hitting continue will take you to a registration page for an ONLINE profile – this is not the requirement.
  5. Once in the ‘Create Gamer Profile’ window, scroll down so that you can see the bottom paragraph.
  6. Look for the hyperlinked ‘created a local profile’ link in last paragraph. Clicking this will allow you to create a new offline profile.

Note that an offline GFWL account will not let you play online. But you should be able to play single player mode without any issues whatsoever. A YouTube video showing how to make an offline xlive account can also be found here.

General tips to avoid crashes

  • Update to the latest DirectX monthly runtime (August 2010) – this is an absolute must not just for BulletStorm for for pretty much every PC game that comes out these days. Latest monthly runtime can be downloaded from here.
  • If you experience random CTD, try disabling multi GPU technologies such as SLI or Crossfire, if using any.
  • Update video card drivers to the latest build before running the game – if latest drivers do not work, try downloading and installing latest beta drivers (do this at your own risk).

There aren’t many torrent trackers out there which index Cricket torrents. The game is only being played on a handful countries as opposed to sports such as Football. Despite this, Cricket has a growing number of fans across the world and it’s already a hugely popular sport in the Asian region. With the World Cup 2011 currently ongoing, the enthusiasm for Cricket is at its heights. However, the lack of Cricket related content has still not changed in the BitTorrent scene – although scene groups such as FAIRPLAY, etc. release match highlight videos, etc. it’s done in an inconsistent and an irregular manner. If you are looking to download World Cup Cricket torrents, here’s one tracker that has them; AcrossTheTasman. ATT tracks full match videos, highlights and TV documentaries related to CWC2011 and other events, both in standard and high definition. In addition to Cricket, this tracker has Rubgy, Mortor Racing, Tennis, Australian Soccer and other sports content indexed as well.

Some of you might be hearing about ATT for the very first time. But this isn’t a site that landed out of nowhere – AcrossTheTasman is a spinoff tracker by the same team who runs popular Diwana.org. They have been tracking Cricket content ever since inception and now, the coverage has expanded to World Cup 2011. It appears that ATT has their own cappers who capture the streams from live broadcasts (sans the commercials), encode them and upload them as torrents – daily highlights packages, full match videos and pre/post match commentary are all available, some in high definition formats.

AcrossTheTasman Cricket

A screenshot of ATT’s Cricket category can be seen in the screenshot above. World Cup 2011 has a separate section of its own deep down the Releases section and this is where everything is updated and indexed. We wouldn’t link to it directly but it’s easy enough to find.

Note that AcrossTheTasman is not a Cricket only private tracker. It tracks a host of other sports content including  Rubgy, Mortor Racing, Tennis, Australian Soccer, etc. For more information and screenshots of ATT, please refer to our full review located here. If you are interested in becoming a new member, registrations are currently open.

If you are a fan of Cricket, you surely know about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 which is currently underway hosted by Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh. As far as the cricketing nations are concerned, this is the most important event for four years to come – naturally, almost every Cricket fan would want to watch the action on TV when live broadcasts are in progress. But what about the people who don’t have access to a TV (at work, etc)? What about those who don’t receive the channel that’s broadcasting the matches? In such cases, most would look for online live streaming links that have world cup 2011 coverage. Now, I’ve seen Twitter, Facebook, etc getting spammed with all sorts of streams that claim to show the matches live. Some of these actually do show them but most are fake, low quality feeds while some are illegal and often get taken down. Did you know that there is an official live streaming link provided by the broadcaster itself?

Cricket World Cup 2011

ESPN Star Sports (ESS) holds the official broadcasting rights for WC 2011. In fact, they have the rights to broadcast all ICC events including the champions trophy, T20 world cup, etc, until 2015. In Asia, live cricket broadcast is usually aired on Star Cricket and ESPN channels – these are premium channels and are usually only available by subscription. However, did you known that ESS makes available a stream of Star Cricket and/or ESPN on its website whenever a live WC11 match coverage is ongoing? You can use the links below to access the stream(s):

[Click Here] to visit WC11 official live online stream

This link is 100% legit, has higher video quality and will not get taken down due to copyright infringement anytime soon. With this around, you can stop worrying about finding working links to watch the next match online.

The world of BitTorrent is yet to see a torrent tracker dedicated to magazines. True, lots of E-learning and library trackers such as Bibliotik carry plenty of magazine releases but there isn’t a private tracker on this planet which solely focuses on mags. This however is not the case with DDL forums and release blogs – we have already featured on this blog ‘Magazines Download’ and StoreMags, two specialized mags only DDL sites that index iPad and PC compatible electronic issues of modern magazines (see end of post for links to full reviews on these) . Today’s article is about yet another similar release blog for premium magazines in PDF format; MagBooks. MagBooks is one of the older DDL sites on the net and it’s been in operation since mid 2008. The site has kept the momentum going over the years and still indexes around 50 new magazine uploads every day.

Mag Books Logo

The content on MagBooks includes both magazines and E-books. Out of the site’s 9100+ releases, around 7500 are magazine uploads. It’s actually a pretty impressive collection of mags, ranging from premium, well known publications to somewhat lesser known issues some of which region specific. Each magazine is uploaded into multiple one click hosting services such as Filesonic, Hotfile, Depositfiles, uploading.com, etc. Note that the Download links section is easy to miss – it is located at the bottom of each article, beneath the ‘You might also like’ section.

Layout of MagBooks is nothing revolutionary but users should be able to figure their way around the site without much trouble. Note that most of the site’s usability functions including search, browse by category, browse by date, etc are located in the rightmost sidebar (with other sidebars mostly catering to advertisements). Basic layout resembles that of a regular release blog, with recently uploaded magazines displayed on homepage. Each upload has a separate detailed description page, where the download links are located.

MagBooks Index

MagBooks maintains a social media presence both via its FaceBook page and a Twitter feed. Additionally, RSS feeds are also available both for posts and comments. Note that registration on MagBooks is not required for downloading – all links are visible even to guests.

A year ago, we featured on this blog a new direct download link (DDL) forum for high definition video called HD-Dump. The launch of a new forum or a private torrent tracker of this sorts is not so surprising these days as new sites pop up almost on a daily basis. Therefore, some of you may have disregarded the post about HDD thinking it was yet another site that jumped in on the bandwagon. However, HD Dump has proved that it’s here to stay by passing the test of time – the site has now been online for a full year and its first birthday was celebrated last week. During this time HD Dump has done well both in terms of adding new members as well as expanding the amount of video content it indexes. The site now has a good mix of high definition content including 720p, 1080p movies, BRRip, MicroHD and untouched TrueHD movies, TV shows to documentaries, anime and even sports. It is also one of the more cleaner looking DDL forums out there with no advertisements, no duplicate threads and no password protected files.

HD Dump Logo

Quoted below is a mass E-mail sent to all existing members from the HDD administration:

HD-Dump turns 1 !!
Hi all. It's been a full year since we started HD-Dump, and we're very happy with how things have turned out.As high definition enthusiasts, we started HD-Dump as an answer to what we really felt other forums weren't giving. We wanted a clean and neat environment where HD enthusiasts can visit and easily find what they're looking for, and we hope that's what we've been able to provide you with.
So, a year has come and gone, and our community has grown very nicely over time. As of now, we have a tremendous member base of over a whopping 6,500 members and now getting well over 2,000 unique visits every day. We have almost 1,000 different 720p movies and well over 500 1080p.
We at HD-Dump would like to thank all of you for all your great support and feedback, which helps make HD-Dump what it is today. And if you haven't visited us for a while, you're always welcome to come back and say hello
Regards,
The HD-Dump team.

The statistics mentioned above are indeed true. As of 21/2/2011, HDD indexes around 1000 720p movies, 500 1080p movies, ~100 mHD and BRRip releases, 150+ untouched TrueHD movies, 75+ HD documentaries among other releases (this is not counting the ~1000 uploads in adult section).

HD Dump Index

Some of you might remember that HDD launched with a self enforced rule set and a goal to become one of the more cleaner DDL forums out there. Some of these rules were:

  1. No passwords whatsoever allowed in any files.
  2. All files must be single extraction (no RARs inside RARs).
  3. Each movie has only 1 thread – duplicate threads for the same movie/TV series are not allowed.

It’s good to see these policies still in place even after a year – the site indeed looks cleaner and more organized than some of its competitors. As for download links, releases are usually uploaded to multiple file hosting services including (but not limited to) FileServe, FileSonic, BitShare, Netload, etc. Dead link removal and posting of new links is frequently done for most releases, extending their lifetime.

Registrations for HD-Dump are currently open – if you are interested, you may create an account without the need for an invite code. It’s a decent DDL forum for fans of HD video.

With the 83rd Oscar academy awards ceremony just around the corner, it’s a time of celebration for movie fanatics. The veteran BitTorrent tracker/release blog BTArena is joining in on the celebrations in style; BTArena’s Oscars project is back for a third time, this time for the 2011 awards. If you have never heard about this before, this project deals primarily with leaked Oscar nominated movies. Although tightened security procedures by movie publishers did reduce the number of leaks compared to 2010, it’s no secret that a number of Oscar nominated movies are already available for download on file sharing networks across the world. BTArena’s aim is to bring all these leaked torrents and direct downloads together under a single page, where everyone can easily download them.

Oscar 2011 BTArena

While some of you may be hearing about this for the first time, BTArea has been doing it before every academy awards ceremony since 2009. The project is basically a separate page on BTArena site in which current Oscar awards categories and nominated movies for each award are listed. Next to each nomination is a link through which you can download a copy of the related movie via BitTorrent or one click hosting sites. Download links to all but 18 nominated movies are available (most of the missing links are for shorts). These links point to verified, non fake torrent files hosted on BTArena’s tracker. Note that private torrent tracker fans may not like this since all links point to torrents hosted on public trackers.

Lately, we’ve seen a lot of buzz in the specialized games tracker scene with Blackcats Games opening signup, bitGAMER migrating to Gazelle, the launch of PWNNetwork, etc. However, there are games torrent sites out there which haven’t fully got the attention they deserve ; GazelleGames (GGn) is one of them. GGn is without a doubt the most feature rich dedicated PC and console games tracker out there – from the standard set of features provided by Gazelle RC2 codebase to custom add-ons such as detailed games description pages with screenshots, trailers + YouTube videos to automatic integration with reviews and ESRB ratings, GGn’s usability features remain unrivalled even by veteran games trackers that have been around forever. Despite the already impressive feature set, developers and staff of this great young torrent site keep adding new enhancements every day. Their latest additions include an automatic uploader bot for more new seedbox hosted daily video game torrents and faster pre times plus a ton of other ehnacements.

GazelleGames

Being a relatively new entrant to the BitTorrent scene, GGn does not have a torrent index or a registered user base as large as that of heavyweights such as BCG’s. However, with 3300+ registered members and 1600+ active torrents added in a very short period of time, its catching up fast. Introduction of the autouploader will further speed things up as it will increase the number of new torrents uploaded per day. Speaking of new torrents, all new uploads at GGn have a 6 hour free leech period – this promotes activity as well as helps members build a healthy ratio. To quote one of the SysOps:

Worried you won't be able to afford the latest releases? We have lots of ratio boosters on site. From our numerous Upload GB giveaways, to our 6 hour freeleech on new torrents (including our seedbox hosted auto uploads). We even have a monthly staff pick that is not only freeleech, but has challenges too that get you extra Upload GB's!

Additionally, we are told that more free leech possibilities will be made available once the proposed switch to Ocelot core tracking software is complete.

GazelleGames Index
Image: Some of the torrents indexed on GazelleGames – the site tracks PC and Console games both old and new including scene and non scene releases.

As we said earlier, the impressive list of modern features is one of the major factors contributing to the success of GGn. Listed below are some of the latest improvements and additions made by the site’s developers, who seem to be really passionate about what they do:

  • Screenshots and YouTube video form fields in torrent description pages
  • Review Ratings (CNET, IGN and Metacritic integration)
  • Uploady (an automated upload system which requires only a game title and platform – the rest is auto filled)
  • Hit n' Run system
  • ESRB Ratings
  • 'My' Platforms (add your consoles and use them as the default search filter when browsing torrents!)
  • Account parking
  • RSS Feeds and Announces
  • Idle IRC Bonus
  • Anonymous uploading
  • Peer list Anonymity
  • Staff recommendations
  • Forum Subscriptions
  • Paranoia Level 6
  • Multi user PM's
  • Latests posts
  • Like/Dislike posts
  • Donations progress bar (full disclosure with a REALISTIC target)
  • Dropdown Box for Tags
  • BBCode spoiler tag
  • BBCode button panel
  • Descriptions Without Torrents
  • Achievements System
  • IRC Poker Bot
  • GGn Minecraft Server
  • Feedback Button
  • Greasemonkey Scripts such as Steam uploady, buffer calculator, lightbox resizer, and upload comments notifier

Note that the list above does not includes some of the older features such as the GamePedia, GGn Wiki, etc which we covered in previous articles located here and here.

Signups for GazelleGames are currently closed - majority of our reader base are probably already members there since we announced two GGn open signups previously on this blog. However, if you are a new reader or still haven’t joined this tracker for some reason, you can still ask for an invite in their official invites IRC channel. Details are as follows:

Server: : irc.gazellegames.net:6667 (irc.gazellegames.net:+7000 for SSL)
Channel: #Invites or #GGn-Help
Invites Channel Direct Link: irc://irc.gazellegames.net:6667/Invites

Special thanks to t4nk and rest of GGn staff for the heads up.

If you have a Wireless network at home, you’d be a fool to leave it unprotected. With support for WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) built into most modern routers and operating systems, securing your wireless network from basic threats is not hard at all. When you secure a network using either one of these technologies, you’re required to provide an encryption key – once secured, computers or devices cannot access the wireless network properly without providing this key. When a windows based computer tries to connect to a secured wireless network, the OS usually saves the entered key in the system registry (with user consent), so that it can automatically connect to the network without user interaction. Now, you may want to recover this saved wireless network password for a number of different reasons – one obvious case is that you forgot it. WirelessKeyView is a handy piece of software which allows you do just that.

wirelesskeyview

What WirelessKeyView does is pretty simple – it reads the system registry for saved wireless network passwords and presents them to the user in a readable format. In Windows 7, there is an option in ‘Manage Wireless Networks’ section where you can reveal the saved wireless network password without any additional software. However, this only works in some cases – for example, you always need administrative rights to perform this action. WirelessKeyView has no such restrictions – it’s a fully portable software which does not require installation and can be run by anyone including users without administrative privileges. Additionally, the app is completely free and does not come bundled with any sort or adware or spyware. WirelessKeyView supports all Windows operating systems upwards from Windows XP Service Pack 1.

A couple of years ago, private trackers were a lesser known subject among the masses unless you were a hard core BitTorrent user. Flash forward to today and the situation is a lot different – with the advent of BitTorrent discussion forums, invite sites and P2P blogs (such as this one :p), private trackers have become more accessible to the general public. While some ague that increased popularity is harmful to these communities, new mediums have no doubt helped trackers grow and gain new members resulting in more activity and donations. Today’s post is about yet another online resource for BitTorrent & tracker news; /r/trackers. /r/trackers is a SubReddit on the social news website Reddit.com – for those unfamiliar with the terminology, it’s basically a subcategory dedicated to torrent news. Not only does it serve as a news aggregator and a place to comment and discuss on torrent related topics, it also has an invite offers section through which readers can request for membership on 25+ private torrent sites.

Reddit Trackers Logo

In a world where BitTorrent is considered evil by most of the big media, it’s not very common for a major social news site to have a separate category for BitTorrent related news (and with over 5300 readers adding the Subreddit to their front page so far, it appears to be well received too). This is not the first time Reddit is closely associated with file sharing - it was only last year Reddit members founded BaconBits, a private tracker for Redditors only. However, it must be noted that all these are user generated content to which there is no direct involvement by the services’ management. Still, it’s good to see BitTorrent & P2P being ‘accepted’ topics on a major (and one of the fast growing) news sites in the world.

Coming back to the topic at hand, viewing and using /r/trackers is pretty straightforward even if you have never used Reddit before. It’s basically a news feed where torrent news from various external sources are aggregated. Users can comment, discuss, up vote or down vote the stories to make them popular. In addition to news, you can find user created Q&A threads, opinions, open signup news and other general discussions about private trackers here.

trackers screenshot

If you are interested in private tracker invites, /r/trackers has a separate section for invite giveaways. If you look under the ‘Current Invite Offers’ section located in right sidebar, you will see a list of trackers to which invitations are available. Some of these are offered by Reddit users while some are conducted as official recruitment by tracker staff themselves. At time of this post, there were offers for nearly 30 different trackers available.

Use the links below to access /r/trackers. Registration is not required to view the content – however, you will need a valid Reddit account (which is free) to comment, submit or vote on stories.

/r/trackers Link: http://www.reddit.com/r/trackers

This Subreddit has a separate IRC channel which allows real time conversations with fellow readers:

P.S.- We saw a lot of our articles being aggregated on /r/trackers – kudos to whoever added and voted on them to make them popular :)

In almost all of our troubleshooting articles, we advise gamers to install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX. DirectX is a collection of Application Programming Interfaces (API) commonly used in PC game and multimedia development. It’s been in use since 1995 and and by today has become a standard in the Windows based PC industry - A version of DirectX comes installed with all Microsoft operating systems by default. However, you cannot always rely on the version that came with windows for ever. Microsoft often releases updates to DX and to play latest games without hiccups, you’ll need to update to the latest available runtime. In case you are confused by the number of different DX setups showing up on Microsoft Download Center, here’s a download link to the latest available monthly runtime as of 2/17/2011.

Unlike in our previous posts, this article does not feature the redistributable, standalone, offline installer for DX. The download link below is pointed to the web installer hosted on MS download center. For version buffs, this is DirectX 9.0c v9.29.1973 released on 11/30/2010 (November 2010). It’s compatible with Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Service Pack 3.

The BitTorrent ecosystem is changing – earlier, the trend was for P2P groups to team up with well known private trackers to pre their releases exclusively on those sites. Today, we have groups building their own trackers to release content directly to their fans. We’ve already seen iMAGiNE (UnleashThe.Net) and EuReKa (BD25.org) do this recently and today’s post is about another new tracker launched by a veteran P2P movie encoder group, FraMeSToR. FraMeSToR’s tracker specializes in high definition content including 3DBD, BD25, Remux & other Blu Ray encodes, 720p,1080p/1080i movie and TV shows and even lossless FLAC music. Unlike most other sites you see out there, FraMeSToR-HD plans to have (and already has) a lot of exclusive encodes including internal releases by groups such as FraMeSToR, MERC, FLAWL3SS and HDMaNiAcS. This tracker officially launched to the public today and it’ll have open registrations for two weeks.

FraMeSToR HD

Rather than jumping straight into a public launch, FraMeSToR-HD staff made the wise move to beta test the tracker for several weeks. Mot of the bugs have now been ironed out and the end result is a pretty stable torrent site. FHD’s backstory and the type of content it will track is explained in detail in the following E-mail sent to us by staff:

BEGIN QUOTE

Introduction
It is our great pleasure to announce that work is almost complete and we are on the break of launching our brand new FraMeSToR Tracker. Yes, after being on a couple of well respected sites, we felt the urge of taking matters into our own hands and start our own torrent community that will be driven with the same open mentality and spirit that brought FraMeSToR to where it is now. We will try to bring a place that will have both quality and quantity and will be fun to be a part off.
How do we see this community?
It will be a solid encoder base and hangout. We will not be the only internal group of this tracker and we have already recruited 2 other groups that we are proud to have on board. We believe that they represent the same quality standards as we do while still doing their own ways and using their methods. I'm even sure, more are yet to follow. By doing this, we have created a claiming of encodes option on sources like full blurays, remuxes, etc...... so whoever of our internal groups claims it, you will be sure that there will be a good encode to follow.
What will be offered on this tracker?

  • FraMeSToR 720p, 1080p and BD25 encodes
  • MERC (untouched Blu-rays EU source) coming soon
  • HDMaNiAcS (Internal)
  • Full Blurays
  • 3D blurays and encodes
  • 720p and 1080p Encodes from our internals
  • TV captures
  • TV encodes
  • Music Blurays and encodes
  • HD audiotracks
  • FLAC music

Are we saying goodbye to our previous site?
Not completely. We will not upload there ourselves anymore but they have all means available to get our releases and upload them there. They won't be kept in the dark. However, we will release on our site first.
Are scene encodes allowed?
Only for TV series. Not for movies. We believe that the scene has nothing to do with quality encoding of HD content and do not wish it on our site.
Is there a reward system?
Yes there is. Although we won't use freeleech directly on torrents, we have a very good seeding bonus system that gets you points per hour per seeding torrent. Those points can be exchanged for more upload, V.I.P status and other goods. I think people will be quite satisfied.
In short:
We would like to create a huge HD Archive. One that has quantity and quality with a solid encoder base. Add a good mentality to it and I think a good and solid community is born.
Kind regards
The FraMeSToR Team

END QUOTE

FHD seems to be running on a modified xbtit codebase and the interface is user friendly and navigable. Some of the torrent categories and part of the main torrent index can be seen in the screenshot below:

FraMeSToR Index

Although a brand new site, FHD starts off with some strong statistics – the site already has over 1000 registered members and tracks over 330 torrents (most of them exclusive encodes). Expect these numbers to grow rapidly in the coming days as news of this tracker spreads around the BitTorrent community.

If you are interested in becoming a member of FraMeSToR-HD, you are in luck. The site will have open registrations for the next two weeks, starting today.

Here’s something you don’t see every day – Racing Underground (RU) has opened its doors to the public for a very limited amount of time. RU is a specialized racing torrent tracker and is without a doubt one of the best online resources for racing fans. The site covers everything from full race videos & highlights from almost all major racing events including Formula 1,2,3, MotoGP, GP2, GP3, WRC, BRC, IRC Rally events, etc to racing related E-books and even sports car and motorbike photography. Although some of you may not have heard of this tracker before, RU is a huge private torrent site with over 35000 indexed torrents. Keep in mind that this site almost never opens public signups. Even today’s open registration will only last for a mere 7 hours so hurry up and get in while you can – this is too good a tracker to miss out on.

Racing Underground

Despite being a closed community for the most part, RU isn’t a private tracker that’s short of members. At the time this post was being written, Racing Underground was home to 25400+ active users and had over 35100 torrents in its database – this tracker is living proof that even niche torrent sites can attract the masses and gain popularity if they are managed well.

As it’s the case with most niche trackers, content is king on Racing Underground. The site tracks a ton of unique and exclusive torrents which you are not likely to find on any other private trackers. RU has it’s own cappers who are responsible for uploading full match videos and highlights captured from TV streams, cable and satellite broadcasts, etc. Pretty much everything from videos of all major racing events to E-books and photos related to racing can be found here. The screenshot below captures some of the torrent categories available on Racing Underground:

Racing Underground Index

Coming back to open signups, Racing Underground staff have decided to open registrations for a very limited amount of time. A notice posted on site reads:

Open sign-up's available for the next 7 hours, spread the word....!! (04:00 PM)

7 hours is indeed a very short window but many would agree that it’s a lot better than nothing.

Site Name: Racing Underground (https://www.racing-underground.com)
Signup URL: https://www.racing-underground.com/index.ru?cls=56 (Invitation code field should be auto filled – if it does not, that means open signup ended)

If by the time you read this signups have closed, then tough luck. Otherwise, enjoy one of the best racing torrent communities on the planet.
UPDATE: Signups have closed due to high demand:

Due to overwhelming success, open sign-up's have been closed earlier..

Just a quick heads up for those who missed out on MP3Scene open Signups. This tracker now has an official IRC invites channel through which interested readers can request for a free invite. You will have to undergo a short interview process and provided that you succeed, a MP3Scene invitation will be sent to you by site staff themselves. For those who are hearing about this tracker for the first time, MP3Scene has been one of the fastest growing private trackers of 2011. The site, which is based on the SoftMP3 source code, tracks scene released English music albums mostly in MP3 format. Its uploaders and automatic upload scripts have added nearly 10000 music torrents to the index in just 5 weeks time.

MP3Scene

At the time of this posting, MP3Scene had a registered user base of 6000 members and tracked 9500 active torrents (3500 new, 5800 archived, 200 Lossless). Fond of Karaoke music? If so, this article might interest you. Today’s post is about two private torrent trackers that specializes in Karaoke music; Karaoke-World (KW) and Karaoke-Kingdom (KK). Although there are hundreds of generic music trackers out there, these two could probably be the only sites to focus solely on the Karaoke niche (which is a good thing). Karaoke World is the older tracker of the two and has been online for several months. It’s a pretty well established tracker with a decent user base and a good sized torrent index. Karaoke Kingdom on the other hand is a brand new site which just launched last week. Either way, these two sites are good resources if you are looking forward to download not only Karaoke music but Karaoke Apps and music videos too. Both sites are open for signup right now.

Karaoke-World
Karaoke World
Karaoke World has been online for some time and was probably the first specialized karaoke tracker in the BitTorrent scene. It tracks all sorts of Karaoke music from over 50 different categories including collections, professional Karaoke, Music vids and some region specific releases. While the content is great, KW does not have the best looking user interface – Built on the TS Special Edition v.7.2 codebase, it uses high contrast color schemes and the UI looks a little cluttered in some places. The site has standard ratio rules and a bonus system is in place to reward members who actively seed and download. After suffering from an extended downtime recently, KW is back online with open registrations.
Site Name: Karaoke-World (http://karaoke-world.co.uk)
Signup URL: http://karaoke-world.co.uk/signup.php
Statistics: 2770+ users and ~3000 torrents

Karaoke-Kingdom
Karaoke Kingdom
Karaoke Kingdom is the newest Karaoke tracker to have a public launch and it’s only a couple of days old. The site currently tracks around 115 torrents but expect this count to increase as the days progress. Just like Karaoke-World, KK tracks Karaoke music albums and collections spanning over 20 different categories. On the downside, this site too uses a high contrast color scheme that is not too easy on the eye (why they do this is beyond me). KK is built on the Torrentstrike codebase and comes with standard features you see on the average private tracker. Signups are currently open and Karaoke music fans might want to keep an eye on this one.

We’re a little late on this one but here’s the routine troubleshooting article for Test Drive Unlimited 2. TDU 2 is the 10th installment of popular Test Drive racing game series and the sequel to 2007’s Test Drive Unlimited 1. I’ve had the opportunity to try this game out on the PC and for me, it was nothing more than a mediocre racer. In fact TDU 2 looked more like a mash up between a racing game and ‘The Sims’ rather than a pure racer like its predecessors – I wasn’t a fan of the newly introduced ‘social features’ but credit to developers for trying out something different than following the same old formula. Coming back to the troubleshooting article, here are some fixes and solutions for some common problems you may experience with the game. While it’s not an unplayable bugfest, it’s not a perfect game either.

Fix Test Drive Unlimited 2 sound issues

If your computer’s sound output is configured to anything above ‘Stereo’ you might experience no sound, missing cut scene audio, etc. The game does not appear to support surround sound on certain hardware configurations. To fix this, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Control Panel –> Sound
  2. Select ‘Speakers’ and click the ‘Configure’ button.
  3. Choose ‘Stereo’ in the next dialog.
  4. Click Next on every window in the wizard. Hit finish at the last step to save changes.

Fix missing DLL file error at launch

If you experience any missing DLL errors while trying to launch the game, a likely cause is an outdated or incomplete DirectX installation. You can download the latest DX monthly runtime (November 2010) from this location.

How to change language in TDU2

Several people had sent us E-mail asking us how to change the language. Well you don’t need to mess with the configuration file to change the language since you can do it directly from the in game options menu. However, your copy of TDU2 needs to be a Multilanguage copy in order to do this. I’ve seen MULTI5 (supports Spanish, English, French, Italian and Deutsch) and MULTI2 (supports Russian and English) copies of the game so the selectable languages will depend on the version you own.

Fix TDU2 crashes – beta users

Did you have the Test Drive Unlimited 2 beta installed? If so, please uninstall the beta and delete its installation folders manually prior to installing the full game.

How to switch between windowed mode and fullscreen in Test Drive Unlimited 2

Again, this can easily be done using the standard windows shortcut. Pressing ALT + Enter keys together will toggle between fullscreen mode and windowed mode in TDU 2.

No dynamic weather effects such as Rain in TDU 2

Ever seen it raining while in game? Some of you may not have due to a weird reason – dynamic weather effects only work when you are online. There are a few races and events where it rains regardless of you being online or offline, but dynamic weather effects when you are just driving around or free roaming will not work in offline mode. This will probably be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Fix TDU 2 closing/crashing at launch and other startup errors

This can happen for a number of reasons but here’s one of the solutions that might work. If you installed the game using a mounted image, try unpacking the ISO and installing from the unpacked files. This seems to have solved the issues for several people, judging from responses on several gaming forums.

How to configure a 3rd party game controller with Test Drive Unlimited 2

For a detailed guide on how to configure a 3rd party controller with Test Drive Unlimited 2, please check out this forum thread.

Few tips to improve TDU 2 performance

  1. Disable multi GPU features such as SLI or Crossfire – the game seems to have trouble with them on certain configurations.
  2. There is a FPS lock at 60.
  3. Update your graphics card drivers.

This article is a work in progress – it will be updated as more solutions are found.

After invading the smartphone scene with over 12 million copies sold, Rovio’s puzzle video game Angry Birds made it to the PC last January. I’ve been playing it on a Windows 7 based computer for the last two weeks and I’ve got to say that it’s a fantastic port. The addictive gameplay is back with a mouse based control scheme and better, more detailed graphics over its mobile counterparts. In my experience, the gameplay was almost perfect with no major technical glitches or bugs coming in the way. However, several of our readers had E-mailed us with some issues they had with the game. So here’s our troubleshooting article for Angry Birds for the PC – listed below are some commonly reported problems, along with their potential solutions and workarounds.

Angry birds keeps minimizing to desktop

This was one of the biggest problems I had with this game and in the end the solution turned out to be a pretty simple one (at least in my case). If angry birds keeps minimizing to desktop at random times, please check if your Mozilla Firefox web browser is closed prior to running the game.

Fix for ‘application failed to start due to configuration…’ error

Sometimes, you may be greeted with the error message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." when trying to launch angry birds. If the problem persists even after a reinstall, it could be due to your computer not having the necessary VC++ runtime files installed. You need to have C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update installed for the game to work properly. 32-bit and 64-bit installations for this can be found here.

Problems with screen sizing and other display issues

  1. Right click the Angry Birds executable (AngryBirds.exe) and select properties.
  2. Switch to the ‘Compatibility’ tab.
  3. Tick ‘disable display scaling on high dpi settings’.
  4. Press ok to save and close the dialog. Try launching the game.

Fix texture is too large error in Angry Birds (PC)

This error can be caused by running the game in an unsupported resolution. You can change the resolution by editing the configuration file.

  1. Navigate to the Angry Birds installation path (default C:\Program Files\Rovio\Angry Birds )
  2. Locate the config.lua file. Open it with a text editor such as notepad.
  3. Lower the display resolution by changing values next to Width and Height strings. For starters, lower it down to Width = 1024 and Height = 600 (a known, supported resolution  for AB).
  4. Save and close the file. Run the game to see if the error message issue is fixed.

How to run Angry Birds in Windowed mode

  1. Navigate to the Angry Birds installation path (default C:\Program Files\Rovio\Angry Birds )
  2. Locate the config.lua file. Open it with a text editor such as notepad.
  3. Set the fullscreen variable to false. Save, close the file and run the game.

Missing MSVCR100.dll error file during launch

Download the MSVCR100.dll file from this location and copy it to your System32 directory (default C:\Windows\System32). For any other missing DLL file errors, please update your DirectX to the latest monthly runtime from here.

Ever since its inception back in late 2009, BTN has come a long way as a private TV torrent tracker. The site pretty much has all major television series (both old and new) available for download, is based on a modern user interface rich with advanced features, has fast pre times and is ratio free. To put it short, BTN now rivals long standing specialized TV torrent sites such as BitMeTv.Com and TVTorrents.Com in terms of available content, site features as well as active user base. There has always been great demand for BTN membership within the BitTorrent community but getting in has become harder over the last couple of months as the site closed it’s IRC invites channel and reduced the number of invites issued to existing members. If you are one of the folks looking to get into this awesome tracker, there is finally some good news – BTN now runs on a more powerful, brand new server and in celebration, staff have re opened the IRC invites channel which was closed for months.

BTN New Server

We have already discussed in a previous post about BTN’s site features which are a major attraction for this tracker. There would be little point in repeating the same information in this article – if you are looking for a detailed overview of BTN, refer to this post which includes screenshots and a summarized list of site features. Of course, BTN keeps improving every day and new enhancements are added quite frequently. Some of the notable new additions include the auto uploader bot (which has been in operation for some time now), an enhanced search, Actors page, TV news page, improvements to series pages and series lists pages, new skins and lots more.

For those looking for updated site statistics, BTN now tracks nearly 25000 TV torrents which cover 4600 different TV shows, 13000 episodes, 4500 seasons involving 10000+ actors. Want to see how this tracker fares with other leading TV torrent sites out there? Refer to the table below.

Tracker No. Of Torrents No. Of Users
BTN 24800 18200
BitMeTV 29500 20500
TVTorrents.Com* 17000? 56000?
Freshon.TV 10000 19000?

*Statistics for TVT.Com may not be accurate – its ‘Stats’ section currently has an error which prevents actual statistics from being displayed.

As mentioned in the title of this post, IRC interviews are now open. You will be able to get a free invite to join BTN if you get through the interview process conducted by site staff. The interview itself is not likely to take a lot of time but due to heavy demand, you may have to wait in a pretty long queue. We do not know for how long the channel will remain open so get in while you can. IRC channel details and are listed below:

Server: irc.omgwtfhax.net
Channel: #BTN-Invites

Make sure to follow instructions mentioned on channel topic. Spamming and sending private messages (PM) to staff without permission will likely get you kicked out from the channel. Good Luck!
